Don’t mind if I do – Scotch whisky’s R2m ‘bargain price’ at local retailer

FOR THE “bargain price” of R2 million, whisky enthusiasts can take home the last remaining bottle in the world of Royal Salute Tribute to Honour whisky According to Makro there were only 21 of the “precious decanters” of the “rarest and most sumptuous whisky” released in the world and they were selling one of them — the last one. The 750m1 bottle is “hand-finished with a high gloss glaze and pure New Zealand pigmented clay”. It also has a sterling silver ceramic stopper encrusted with black diamonds, fleur delis and Maltese cross emblems, and rows of silver gilt beading. And its collar and labels are made of sterling silver, partial silver gilt, black and white diamonds and handengraved motifs and script. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the avid whisky collector,” Makro’s online catalogue states. “Master blender” Colin Scott said in the catalogue: “Tribute to Honour has been a labour of love and over 45 years in the making… the final product is so gloriously smooth and formidably powerful it leaves you speechless.” Makro chief executive Doug Jones said there had been a great deal of interest from customers. “But there are very few serious customers,” he said.
