WAGE RELATED INDUSTRIAL ACTION AT MAKRO STORES
- Comments Off
Makro has, after ongoing discussions with SACCAWU, been notified of the union’s intention to embark on indefinite industrial action starting on 8 August 2009. Makro has accordingly implemented labour unrest contingency plans which will include the use of trained non-permanent staff to provide cover for the full duration of the industrial action.
Makro management confirm that their wage offer stands at R445 across the board (ATB) or 8%, whichever is the greater, whilst SACCAWU is unmoved at R460 ATB or 8.5%, whichever is greater.
The company remains committed to maintaining cordial relations with SACCAWU and encourages the union to respect the rights of individual staff members who choose not to participate in the industrial action.
All Makro stores are trading normally and there has been no notable impact on trading patterns at the affected stores.
